Limited edition of 10,000. -Click picture to enlarge- Includes the Legend:Christmas Day, the annual holiday that marks the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, combines the celebration of Jesus' birth with many symbols of the holiday season, includeng God's Angels and Saint Nicholas. Angels, God's Messengers, are an important part of the celebration of Christmas because they remind us that God sent his messenger, in the form of an angel, to inform the Virgin Mary of Christ's birth. After Jesus' birth, God's angels heralded His birth. Saint Nicholas is more than a children's Christmas legend. Born to wealthy parents in the city of Patara about 270 A.D,. he was still young when his mother and father died and left him a fortune. As a teen-ager, Nicholas' humility was already evident. His first known gift was the presenting of dowries to the three daughters of a poor but pious man. He devoted his life entirely to Christianity. Pre-modern representations of Saint Nicholas, from church history and folklore, merged with the British character Father Christmas to create the character known to Britons and Americans as Santa Claus. Father Christmas dates back at least as far as the 17th century in Britain, and pictures of him survive from that era, portraying him as a well-nourished bearded man dressed in a long, green, fur-lined robe. He typified the spirit of good cheer at Christmas. The name Santa Claus is derived from Sinterklaas, the Dutch name for St. Nicholas. The color of Santa's outfit recollects the red of bishop's robes. Gifts secretly brought on Christmas eve bring to mind his humble generosity to the three daughters.
